Fujitsu and Software Innovation win major contract with Århus District Council

(Lysaker, 14 September 2009) The Partnership between Software Innovation and Fujitsu has made a ground breaking technological leap forward, as Fujitsu has landed a vast new contract with Århus District Council. With a combined value of 145 million Danish kroner, the contract covers the provision of a SharePoint integrated Case and Document Management solution.

Århus District Council has selected the Japanese IT-giant to take care of the management of 14,500 workstations, as well as the integration of mail, calendar and portal systems. As a part of the agreement, Fujitsu will deliver a new Case and Document Management system to 5,000 of the Council’s employees.

“I expect other District Councils to follow our lead. By outsourcing these operations we can be sure of the highest quality of information technology. This alone is worth the same amount to us as the contract itself,” says Flemming Nielsen, Department Manager at Århus District Council.

“This is the first example of a District Council taking initiative in this area. It’s a new phenomenon, and it can only be positive that Councils are starting to work in this way,” says Fujitsu’s Danish Director, Hans Iakob Estrup.

Switching to Microsoft Technology

The 145 million DKK contract secures Århus District Council a state of the art IT solution, which will allow them to switch from a Lotus Notes platform to a solution based on Microsoft technology. This transition involves abandoning their existing case and archive system, Sirius, to make way for Fujitsu’s Edoc 4.0. According to Fujitsu, this massive account was won due to the superiority of the technology involved, as compared with that of the other bidders: Traen, Scanjour and KMD.

“We were able to offer a SOA-based Case and Document Management system built on a SharePoint platform. This positions us perfectly to integrate with intranets, external networks, sector-specific systems, Outlook and Office. There is simply no better way to create a smooth flow of information,” explains Christian Torp, Fujitsu’s Head of Case and Archive Handling.

Partnership with Software Innovations decisive in winning contract

“We are delighted that our partner Fujitsu has succeeded in winning this contract with Denmark’s second largest district council, using our cutting edge Case and Document Management solution. The platform used in this case, Public 360˚, is a unique solution for the public sector, where internal efficiency and resident service levels are the main priority. This partnership came into being after Fujitsu decided that SharePoint would be their best bet, though they also acknowledged that building a case and archive handling system from scratch would be very costly,” says the CEO of Software Innovation, Frode Haugli.

“Software Innovation delivers technological frameworks to the integrating parties. They built the core functionality, which we expanded upon to meet the specific requirements of the council in question. Using their technology, we are able to focus on creating value for our customers,” says Christian Torp of Fujitsu.
