Cutting-edge solution
City commissioners used to bring 500 pages of paper documents to biweekly meetings. In response to a challenge to reduce the city’s impact on the environment, the City of Bergen moved to paperless meetings using a document management and storage solution based on Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007 and Microsoft Office OneNote® 2007.
The City of Bergen developed this new solution, entitled ‘360° Politician’s Workplace,’ in conjunction with Software Innovation and Microsoft.
“With the digital workplace solution, the city expects to save more than 3 million sheets of paper, eliminate 43 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, and save NOK 2,400,000 (U.S. $366,233) per annum. In addition to protecting the environment, we saw this as a political initiative that would make the politicians and their staff more efficient in their daily work," explains Andreas Høistad, Head of Information and Communication Technology, City of Bergen.
International scope
Internationally, 360° Politician's Workplace has received a lot of attention, due to both its innovative deployment of MS Office and Software Innovation’s Public 360 ̊, and for its many cost, operational and environmental benefits. Recently, the solution was installed in Microsoft’s Executive Briefing Center for European innovation in Brussels and is the only SharePoint-based case management solution marketed internationally through this channel.
